ARod back from the dead?

From Alex Rodriguez web site "After spending time with Cynthia and my family over these last few weeks, it became clear to me that I needed to make an attempt to engage the Yankees regarding my future with the organization.

Prior to entering into serious negotiations with other clubs, I wanted the opportunity to share my thoughts directly with Yankees' ownership. We know there are other opportunities for us, but Cynthia and I have a foundation with the club that has brought us comfort, stability and happiness.

As a result, I reached out to the Yankees through mutual friends and conveyed that message. I also understand that I had to respond to certain Yankees concerns, and I was receptive and understanding of that situation.

Cynthia and I have since spoken directly with the Steinbrenner family. During these healthy discussions, both sides were able to share honest feelings and hopes with one another, and we expect to continue this dialogue with the Yankees over the next few days."

I'm ready to forgive ARod for his arrogance displayed in the last few weeks. The reported $290 million, 10 year deal is still a bit obnoxious to me. It seems to me that his agent did not represent Arod well in this situation. I still think Alex should accept a lower than market salary and win the admiration of the fans. Once the Yankees sign Posada and Rivera, the next thing is to fix the starting pitching rotation. As it stands now, the Red Sox are going to be better than they were last year. They have great pitching, good veterans and young players with a year's confidence. Yankees need Santana to compete next year!

One of the articles I read on this presented it as: before the opt-out, the Yankees had been willing to offer A-Rod $320m; but it would have cost them only $290m because Texas still owed part of A-Rod's package. After the opt-out, Texas is off the hook, so A-Rod will settle for what the Yankees were already willing to pay. So if this is all true, he is conceding quite a bit -- though not to the Yankees.

@Richard,
I believe Boras, ARod's agent, told the Yankees that they couldn't talk to ARod for less than $350 Million. I believe Boras will have a lot of egg on his face for this situation.
Should we start a collection for ARod to make up the difference? :)
We don't want him to go hungry.

ROFLMAO!
